  • 2012/03/7 Peace Boat US and Human Rights Now are co-organizing "Fukushima 3.11: after 1 year," an exhibition of photos by Hirokawa Ryuichi and Morizumi Takashi who have continued to photograph Fukushima and other affected areas since immediately after the accident. The exhibition will be at New York University from March 8 - May 31. For details see here.
  • 2012/03/07 Human Rights Now (HRN) are participating in the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, bringing women and children from Fukushima to give testimony about their situation. An event will be held on March 7 (Wed) from 2:30pm at the UN Church Center 2nd Floor. See details here.
  • 2012/03/07 The Koeberg Alert Alliance, whose representatives also participated in the Global Conference for a Nuclear Power Free World in Yokohama, are holding the "Global Conference: Nuclear Power for Africa?" on March 8-9 in South Africa's Cape Town. Hasegawa Kenichi of Iitate Village in Fukushima has recorded a video message for this conference, telling of the situation immediately after the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident, the current situation of dairy farmers and evacuated residents, worries over children's health, and his thoughts regarding nuclear power.View the message here.
  • 2012/02/28 A fully bilingual press briefing will be held at 3:30 pm on March 3, 2012 (Sat) in Fukushima City, co-sponsored by Global Conference for a Nuclear Power Free World organizers Green Action, Peace Boat and FoE Japan. The briefing will be an opportunity to hear directly from Fukushima citizens' groups including the Fukushima Network for Saving Children from Radiation (kodomo fukushima) and the Citizen's Radioactivity Measuring Station in the leadup to the first anniversary of the disaster on March 11 about their activities to monitor and protect children and citizens from radiation. These include actions to measure and make public data on external and internal exposure to radiation, to provide public consultation and medical advice, food measurements, to provide support for voluntary evacuees and to decontaminate the radiation-affected areas.   • 2012/02/13 The Hapcheon Anti-Nuclear & Peace Festival 2012 will be held in Korea on March 23-24, March 2012. Korean groups who attended the Global Conference for a Nuclear Power Free World are also involved in this conference. Its host organization is the Hapcheon House for Peace, which works for the human rights and welfare of Korean survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, also working to raising public awareness of their situation. While telling the world the effects of exposure to radiation through the use and testing of nuclear weapons, nuclear power plant accidents and contamination through leaking of radioactive materials, testimony will be given by Hibakusha (nuclear survivors) from Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Fukushima in Japan, as well as Bikini Atoll and Chernobyl. As well as on-the-scene reports, exhibitions and talk shows, a peace concert will also be held. click here for details.
  • 2012/02/06 The "Peace on Earth Stage" will be held on March 10-11 (Sat-Sun) at Tokyo's Hibiya Park. This citizens' gathering in memorial of the March 11 disaster will feature participation by musicians Kato Tokiko and Satamoto Ryuichi, supporters of the Global Conference for a Nuclear Power Free World. The organizers are now calling for participation by citizens' groups, artists, media, corporations and other groups. See details here (Japanese language only).
  • 2012/02/06 Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad recently published a letter voicing opposition to nuclear power. This letter was a response to correspondence with Mr Murata Mitsuhei, former Japanese Ambassador to Switzerland, on the issue of global ethics.
